Though this garbage disposal didn’t nab the top spot on our comparison list, it is still worth talking about. If we’re honest, this machine was beaten out mostly because it doesn’t use a multi-stage grinder process.
Still, this disposer combines some very important features and it’s difficult to find something better for the money. In fact, out of all the garbage disposals that we reviewed the WasteKing L-8000 was listed as the one with the best value.
Built with Power in Mind
The most obvious indication of this machine’s power is its motor’s rating. As you may know from our guide on buying considerations, 1hp is at the top end of the scale when it comes to motor power for domestic garbage disposals. There aren’t as many 1hp garbage disposals on the market as a novice buyer might expect.
A motor this strong is able to withstand the worst kind of treatment. Whether you need to run it often, use it for long periods, or expect it to break down difficult foods, this machine should easily stand up to the challenge.
Though the permanent magnet motor built into this garbage disposal isn’t quite as durable and probably won’t last quite as long as an induction motor (such as the one found in InSinkErator’s Septic Assist), it is lightweight and much more energy efficient. It also helps to keep the price of the unit under control.
If your garbage disposal is powerful enough to cut through difficult, tough scraps, it stands to reason that it should also feature a grinding disc capable of withstanding difficult, tough scraps. The stainless steel used to create all grinding components in this machine is exactly that – strong. It won’t bend or snap under normal (or even slightly elevated) pressure and is extremely rust resistant.
The glass-filled polyester grind chamber can also take a beating and has been deemed completely corrosion proof. In fact, the company offers a lifetime warranty against it rusting. If rust and wear do begin to eat away at your machine, simply call up Waste King for a replacement.
- Strong stainless steel grind components will last a long time.
- Swivel impellers prevent clogs and help clear jams.
- Sound insulation makes it run more quietly than many others.
- Splash guard keeps messes to a minimum.
- Universal permanent magnet motor is not as heavy duty as an induction motor (but is more energy efficient.)
