Is Monopoly a good board game or is it secretly designed to cause intense hatred of friends and family? Opinions are divided, but few would argue that (whatever your opinion of the game) adding Star Wars to the mix can only make things better!
For the 40th anniversary of the first film, this game features some absolutely lovely box art. If you are a fan of the vintage Star Wars poster art (and who isn’t?), that’s already a big plus point. While you may want to hide your standard Monopoly box from view, this deserves a permanent spot on the coffee table.
Everything you know about Monopoly has been reimagined through the lens of the Star Wars universe. The aim of the game is still to make all the money, but now it’s Galactic Credits. All of the tokens and other game pieces are Star Wars themed. The cards are now called Smuggler’s or Force cards. You don’t build hotels and houses, but fleets and bases.
You probably get the overall idea. Because this game is a celebration of the first movie, it focuses quite a lot on special scenes and memories from that film. As you play you’ll collect these scenes and other tributes to the original movie.
Of course, what is Monopoly without interesting game tokens? There’s no Top Hat or Car here. Instead, you get to fight over who gets to be the Death Star or Luke’s speeder. There’s also R2D2, the Falcon, and either a Stormtrooper or X-wing pilot helmet.
The bottom line is, if you have to play Monopoly why not make it Star Wars Monopoly? There’s no argument against that!
