A whisk is indispensable when it comes to knocking the lumps out of thin batter or aerating some mixture. There’s one thing that nobody loves about them, though: they’re a pain to wash.
With a whisk like this, this problem can be a thing of the past: simply slide on the plastic wiper attachment before you start using it. When you’re done, just pull it off using two fingers. All the gunk stuck to the wires should come right off, meaning that all you should need to do to clean it is rinse it under the tap or swish it through your dishwater a few times.
The amount of usable food recovered this way is often more than you’d imagine. You can now return this to the bowl after pulling off the plastic part, which can also serve as a kind of rough-and-ready spatula. While still attached, it forms a kind of stand that keeps the whisk’s head off your countertops.
Unfortunately, this won’t fit on any whisk: the plastic wiper is supplied with compatible utensils (8″, 11″ or mixer attachment size). These whisks are made of stainless steel and seem pretty durable, but aren’t intended to go into the dishwasher.
While we like the idea, we have to wonder if this gimmick is really worth paying twice as much for as an ordinary high-quality whisk. While it does save time, this is probably the kind of thing you’ll buy as a gift for a dedicated baker rather than for use in your own kitchen.
We may be wrong, though. The customer reviews are very positive and most people say they actually use it.
