It’s always nice when something does a useful job while also looking cool. This little fan draws its power from your computer and displays the time while keeping you comfortable, with LED lights strobing to display the clock face.
This makes it a great conversation piece you can easily find space for in a laptop bag. The visual appeal and geek factor is really what it’s all about. The stream of wind it produces isn’t all that strong, though you can direct it squarely at your face. This can be a lifesaver when the air conditioner is on the fritz.
The wire-wrapped cord, which is flexible enough to bend easily but firm enough to support the fan head, is a little over 10 inches long, making it convenient for use with a laptop but not a desktop computer. You can also plug it into a USB charger, but setting it up will probably be awkward if you use a supple extension cable.
Unlike you’ll see on many other fans, even relatively low-powered ones, there’s no blade guard around or in front of the rotating parts. The electronic panels are covered with soft plastic, though. You probably shouldn’t make a habit of sticking your fingers into moving machinery, but it won’t hurt (much) if you slip up. This will, unfortunately, probably happen a couple of times due to where the power button is located.
To conclude, we have to mention that reliability is a concern with this product. Some people are perfectly happy with it, while others complain that it stopped working after a short time or even arrived broken. Certainly, the manufacturer’s recommendation that you not run it for more than 5 hours at a time seems odd. However, given that this LED fan’s price is comparable to similar products, this seems like an acceptable risk to take. This particular seller is also known for not turning up its nose at warranty requests.
