Star Wars is once again a massive force in theaters, with the releases of the seventh, eight, and soon ninth episodes. It’s been more than four decades since the first film came out and the Star Wars juggernaut seems to have no end.
Still, somehow there are still people who aren’t a part of this global science-fantasy cult. With this “complete” saga set you can quickly give anyone the core material they need to decide if Star Wars is for them.
While this set is available in other formats, the Blu Ray edition cannot be beat in terms of quality. There is no DVD or digital download with this clarity and detail, not to mention its extra features. Some purist fans may not want to bother with a collection that includes the prequel trilogy, but let’s not dwell on those people. If you want the whole story, you need to see it all.
Unfortunately, this is not a collection that contains the original theatrical cut. That’s simply because those have never been released and have never been seen outside of a theater – at least not legally. This means that all of the post-release fiddling done by George Lucas is present as expected.
The real value of this set for most fans will, however, be the massive amount of extras included. There’s more than 40 HOURS of additional content – spanning decades. You’ll find deleted scenes, mini documentaries, interviews, behind the scenes production content, and much, much more. There’s so much stuff to go through that a whole three extra discs have been included.
You may have seen various versions of the films over the years, but chances are that you’ve never seen them at this level of quality or with this much additional content. Calling this the “complete saga” is, of course, no longer accurate, but this is the entirety of the George Lucas Star Wars era, so it is appropriate for these six movies to be grouped together.
It’s also going to look absolutely great on your shelf along with the other classics you may have. A definitive buy and possibly the most important gift you can give a prospective fan.
