Children, as you know, can be fussy eaters – the words “little monster tyrant” occasionally come to mind. A visible vegetable, an apple “not cut right”, and two foods touching can all set off a tantrum.
This seems to be exactly the problem this segmented Obol bowl is designed to solve, although it will also keep your breakfast cereal from getting soggy by lifting it above the milk. Presumably, you can also use it for things like separating oatmeal and fruit, or even keeping chips and a relatively thick dipping sauce in their places.
It’s obvious that some thought went into putting this piece of kitchenware together. In the first place, an integral handle makes it easy to hold steady in one hand – this makes it look a little unbalanced, but it won’t tip over on a table unless you really wrestle with it.
Another cool feature is the way the divider is slotted at one end, which makes it easy to scoop cereal into the milk without having to balance flakes on your spoon.
As with anything, though, there are a couple of flies in the ointment. At this price, you’re really paying only for the design itself, not the plastic it’s made of (it is durable and dishwasher safe, though). Depending on the size of your kitchen, you might also find it a chore to put them away: they can be stacked, but they don’t fit into one another, meaning that a set takes up a lot of cupboard space.
If you can live with these drawbacks, however, you may still find this worthwhile. For one thing, as a true cereal gourmet (assuming such a thing exists), you can answer the phone or make coffee without worrying about your corn flakes absorbing too much milk.
